Cheatday Sydney: Ripper burgers, thickshakes and cheesecake pavlova

Where else do you go for breakfast or lunch on cheat day but Cheatday Sydney in Peakhurst?

“We’ve been invited to check out a place that serves cheat meals – burgers, thickshakes and other indulgent stuff,” I said to the husband. The burger zealot he is, I thought his eyes were going to spring out of his head. I hadn’t seen him this excited since Miami won the NBA championships back in 2013.

To be perfectly honest, burgers and thickshakes aren’t really my thing, even on cheat day. But cheesecake and pavlova sure are, and the promise of a cheesecake pavlova had us taking a trip into Sydney’s ‘burbs to check out Cheatday Sydney.

Don’t cheat yourself, treat yourself

This little fun shack in the South Western Sydney suburb of Peakhurst is playfully modelled around a gym, with lockers, boxing bags and hand weights serving as table numbers. There’s even bar stools with foot pedals, if you’re so inclined to burn some calories while you wait for your cheat food.

However, the all-day breakfast-lunch menu isn’t all full-fat cheese. There’s plenty of less indulgent options like scrambled eggs, a grilled chicken roll and avocado on sourdough. There’s also coffee (courtesy of the Inner West’s Little Marionette Coffee Roasters) and plenty of cake varieties.

But we’re here to cheat!

After studying the menu like it was some pre-exam material, Jude chose the cheeky BIG Mav – double beef, double cheese, pickles, lettuce and special sauce on a triple sesame bun – adding seasoned fries and a vanilla thickshake. I went with the double cheeseburger, because apparently a normal cheeseburger is for the weak.

Being the non-burger zealot I am, I’ll take Jude’s word that Cheatday Sydney’s burgers are up there in the higher echelons of Sydney’s burger society.

Dessert didn’t disappoint either. Not only is the cheesecake pavlova incredibly Instagramable with its rose petals and meringue kisses, it tastes divine with plenty of crunch, tang and sweetness.

Did you even cheat if you had a single cheeseburger?

When you can’t decide between cheesecake and pavlova – have cheesecake pavlova

Cheatday Sydney is…

Full of very happy people, including the day we visited one very happy husband.

Why all the happiness? Maybe it’s the fact that everything is yum, in a naughty way. Maybe it’s because MyFitnessPal has the day off. Maybe it’s the uber friendly staff. Or maybe it’s the fact that you don’t have to drive around the block eight times to find a park – my Eastern Suburbs mind blown.

Just do yourself a favour, don’t eat breakfast beforehand. And odds are you probably won’t need to eat dinner after a visit to Cheatday Sydney either.
