Five years ago, I lived in Sydney for a blink and you’ll miss it moment. In my final week, one of my stickiest memories was losing several hours exploring Sydney’s iconic outdoor sculpture installation Sculpture by the Sea (something my housemates at the time bullied me into doing, but that I secretly loved).
Now I’m back (hopefully for longer than 20 minutes), this time around I was jolly excited to have coincided my first week in Sydney with the kick off of this year’s event, skipping on down to Bondi at the first opportunity – no housemate pressure required.
In its 20th year, from 20 October to 6 November 2016, the two-kilometre Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk, which is so fricken pretty it could bring tears to your eyes (ok maybe it has brought tears to my eyes), will be adorned by artworks that are weird, wacky and wonderful, and 100% free to admire.
You’ll find around 100 sculptures strewn across the beach, hills, cliff face, even bins, each telling an individual story. And don’t forget to look up.
